Green Roofs and Roof Gardens
Green Roofs, Terraces and Balcony Gardens
UPDATE: Building owners in New York City who install green roofs on at least 50 percent of available rooftop space can apply for a one-year property tax credit of up to $100,000. The credit would be equal to $4.50 per square foot of roof area that is planted with vegetation, or approximately 25 percent of the typical costs associated with the materials, labor, installation and design of the green roof.
Having a green roof turns an unused space into fertile and resourceful oasis, giving life to an area where there once was none. Green roofs are becoming a staple on buildings where space is limited, like in Manhattan or Brooklyn, and for owners who want to reduce their overall maintenance costs. Green roofs provide a recreation and relaxation area, increase tenant happiness in apartment buildings and can reduce heating and electric bills.
One of the best functions of a green roof is for insulation and overall roof life. A study conducted by Environment Canada found a 26% reduction in summer cooling needs and winter heat losses when a green roof was used.
Green roofs also can be used as a rainwater purification and collection center for rain harvesting systems. Some of the green roof services we provide are:
